The Valley of the Sun Jewish Community Center is searching for enthusiastic youth counselors to work with children in our flagship after-school program, Club J. The Youth Counselor, under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Youth and Camp Services, serves as a member of the agency's professional staff with responsibilities that, at times, extend beyond the limits of their specialized functions. The individual works within the framework of the overall VOSJCC program and objectives while focusing primarily on the following:

DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan, implement, and manage transitions between activities.
• Follow daily schedule to ensure students are where they need to be at all times.
• Assist with the daily pick up and check out process in accordance with outlined protocol and safety measures.
• Distribute provided snacks in accordance with ADHS regulations and recognition of any food allergies applicable to students.
• Participate in staff development, including team building and practical training.
• Communicate effectively with children, peers, supervisors, fellow facility staff, and families.
• Keep spaces clean and organized.
• Utilize radio appropriately (i.e. frequent communication, always having radio on person, keeping radio away from children, returning it to the charging station before leaving).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / DEMANDS:

• Standing, walking, repetitive motions, bending, stretching, lifting up to 20 pounds.

EDUCATION / SPECIALIZED TRAINING:

• Applicants must be 16 years old.
• Completion and passing of a background check (18 and older)
• Acquisition of a negative tuberculosis test, Arizona Fingerprint Clearance card, CPR certification and First Aid certification

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

• Previous childcare experience preferred.
• Flexibility, time management skills, and a positive attitude required.

SAFETY:

• Must always practice and promote safety.

SCHEDULE

• Regularly Scheduled After-School Programming, August-May
  • Monday-Thursday, 2:30p-6p
  • Friday, 2:30p-5p
• Additional Programming (all staff must commit to two special programs throughout the year)
  • Early Release Days, 11:30a-closing
  • School's Out Days/School Break Camps, 8:30a-4p
  • Kids Night Out - Select Saturdays, 4:30p-8:30p
